Superintendent Update

Dear Viking Nation,

Spring will bring a few changes for our school in the coming months. Last night at the regular Board of Education meeting, the board accepted Superintendent Johan van Nieuwenhuizen resignation as he plans to retire from Weld RE-1 School district effective at the end of June.  Johan has served with distinction for nine years, the last five as Superintendent.  We appreciate his commitment to the success of students in our district and we wish him well in his retirement. We thank him for the countless hours, days, nights he spent at Viking activities and representing RE-1 at so many regional and state activities.  Johan will always be remembered as a professional, for having high moral standards in his career, and for being dedicated, kind servant to Viking Nation.  Always a Viking!

The board of Education also appointed Kim Bloemen as Interim Superintendent.  Kim has been our Assistant Superintendent for the past year working alongside Johan daily.  Kim has experience in the Poudre School District and the Boulder Valley School District as Executive Director, Director, and Elementary Principal.  I know all of Viking Nation will support Kim and offer her any assistance as she takes on this role.

Johan and Kim will work together on this transition during the next few weeks.  Please join me in congratulating and thanking Johan for his service to Weld RE-1 and help me welcome Kim to her new role leading Viking Nation.

Sincerely,

Ben Rainbolt, President

Weld County School District RE-1 Board of Education

Sinceramente,

Ben Rainbolt, Presidente

Junta de Educación del Distrito Escolar del Condado de Weld RE-1
